If you’ve used Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, you probably know it backs up data by accesses files directly—and sometimes that can lead to quirky issues with data in OneDrive and SharePoint. I ran into one with OneNote that stumped both Veeam and Microsoft support, and I thought it was pretty interesting.
After poking around, I found a simple workaround. In the affected OneNote notebooks, there were deleted pages in the Notebook Recycle Bin. Once I deleted all of them—including any blank pages—OneNote automatically created a new blank “deleted” page. That new page doesn’t carry the original problem, and backups start working again.
I should mention, this wasn’t an official fix—just me experimenting with the affected notebook. But I’ve tested it three times so far, and every time it’s resolved the issue within a couple of days.
