About ME, RICHARD BRADLEY

Hey Technology Enthusiasts,

About Me (Personally)

I’m a Systems Engineer with 18 years in IT and over a decade managing services, but tech isn’t just my career—it’s my passion. When I’m off the clock, you’ll usually find me tinkering with my home server (running Unraid with a fleet of containers) or exploring new setups—I might even share a post or two about it someday.

Away from the screens, I trade keyboards for adventure: tackling trails in my 4WD, paddling through whitewater rapids, and keeping my trusty rig alive with plenty of hands-on fixes as it gets on in years.

About Me (Professionally)

I began my IT career on the helpdesk at my former high school, quickly progressing from casual holiday work to a full-time role as I streamlined support processes and took on greater responsibility. When my IT Manager moved to another school, I was invited to join the new team of three, where I managed the helpdesk and later expanded into systems management. This role gave me the opportunity to strengthen infrastructure, improve service delivery, and step into a leadership position alongside the IT Manager.

After eight years in education, I transitioned into Managed Services, joining a company that emphasized both technical depth and professional growth—challenging engineers to rebuild their skillsets while mastering the fundamentals of impact and design. Leveraging the high-level expertise I had developed in education, I quickly advanced into dedicated engineering roles, supporting consultants and sales teams by advising clients, shaping project strategies, and assisting with delivery. This progression led me to a Senior Field Engineer position, where I managed client onboardings, conducted reviews and strategy discussions, and partnered with the consulting team to perform in-depth audits and assessments.

I then moved interstate to take up an opportunity with another MSP, where I gained certifications in additional products and broadened my experience across account management, presales, and project delivery. During this time, I discovered that while I excel at consulting and advising clients, sales itself isn’t my path—an insight that strengthened my focus on the technical and strategic side of IT service delivery.

I eventually returned to Melbourne and joined blueAPACHE, where I continue to work today. Within a few months, my experience and guidance with the backup team were recognised, and I was promoted to Backup Tech Lead. From there, my responsibilities continued to expand, leading to my current role as Backup Lead. In this position, I test and evaluate new products and betas, conduct product reviews, define best practices, mentor teams, and contribute to the commercialisation of our offerings—across both licensing and managed services.
